  The North Idaho Scholastic Regional Tournament on February 22 was a tremendous success, bringing together 44 talented players for a day filled with strategy, competition, and excitement. With participants spanning three sections—K-5, 6-8, and 9-12—this event proved to be one of our largest and most memorable tournaments in recent years. A heartfelt congratulations goes out to every player who participated—you showcased impressive skills and sportsmanship throughout the day! K-5 Section Highlights The K-5 section saw 6 of the top 10 spots claimed by CDA Chess Club members, with exceptional performances by Leo Grace and Darshini Dinesh Babu (shown above).   The CDA Chess Club’s New Beginnings Ladder Tournament wrapped up thrillingly on January 20th, marking the conclusion of a three-week competition filled with strategy, camaraderie, and impressive performances. Throughout this tournament, 22 players participated, showcasing new talent and the return of familiar faces, bringing vibrancy and excitement to every round. The final evening saw 10 competitors battle in rounds 5 and 6. Ultimately, Eric emerged as the overall winner, demonstrating consistency and skill by winning all six matches. Andrew Sr. claimed second place, scoring an impressive 5 points throughout the tournament. With a 3-round Swiss format and a fast-paced Game with 20-time control , players brought their best moves to the virtual boards on Lichess.org .   The Winter Solstice Chess Tournament, held on December 21 in Post Falls, was a resounding success. It brought together 11 passionate chess players for a day of exciting strategic play. Organized by the Idaho Chess Association, with tournament directors Adam Porth and Deon Goodwin at the helm, this US Chess-rated event provided a fantastic opportunity for chess enthusiasts of all levels to compete and connect. Linus Wannamaker showcased a remarkable performance, securing the top spot with an impressive score of 4.5 out of 5. His consistent play edged out strong competitors Ben Patterson, who scored 3.5, and William Merry, who finished with 3.0 points after a tiebreaker.   The Winter Wizardry Chess Tournament has been an enchanting adventure from start to finish, filled with camaraderie, strategy, and unforgettable moments. It all began excitedly on December 2, as players gathered for the first rounds at Riverstone McDonald’s. The atmosphere was electric from the beginning, with participants eager to showcase their skills and enjoy a magical battle on the chessboard. Throughout the tournament, we’ve seen players old and new deliver thrilling performances. The games on December 9 brought twists and fierce competition, leaving William and Andrew tied at the top of the leaderboard with 3 points each.
