Casual Chess Sundays at The Blue Shell – Starting May 4th!

Are you a chess enthusiast looking for a relaxed and fun environment to enjoy the game you love? Starting May 4th, The Blue Shell is excited to collaborate with CDA Chess to bring you "Casual Chess Sundays," a recurring event held on the first Sunday of each month. This is your chance to enjoy chess without the pressure of tournament-style play or rigid pairings—just good games and great company.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • When: First Sunday of each month, from 2 PM to around 4 PM
  • Where: The Blue Shell is located at 1903 E Sherman Ave, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814
  • What to Expect: No ratings, stress, or strict rules. Play your way—be it classic chess, blitz, Fischer Random (Chess960), or any fun variation you’d like to explore.
  • Special Perks: Blue Shell will provide a dedicated seating area for participants and offer drink specials to keep the good vibes flowing.
  • How to Join: No registration needed. Just show up, bring your chess set or board, and get ready to play!
  • Who Should Join: Everyone aged 21 and over is welcome, whether you’re a seasoned player or just learning the ropes. It’s the perfect opportunity to hone your skills or enjoy the game with fellow chess lovers.

    This ongoing program is about creating a friendly, low-pressure environment where you can connect with others who share your passion for chess. Whether you're here to test your blitz skills, try new strategies, or have fun, Casual Chess Sundays has something for everyone.

  The Spring Showdown tournament has officially concluded, and what an incredible event it was! ​ Over three weeks, we saw thrilling matches, new faces, and remarkable improvement in skill levels. Here’s a recap of the final results and a look ahead at what’s next for our chess community. 2025 46th State Scholastic Championship Recap and Looking Ahead to 2026

  Milo and Logan Check In The 2025 46th State Scholastic Championship brought together some of the finest young minds in the region for an unforgettable display of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship. Held under the stewardship of expert tournament directors, this event was a resounding success that showcased the remarkable talent of middle and high school chess players. The top three finishers overall were (1st Place) Roy Li of Moscow, (2nd Place) Ryan Wu, and (3rd Place) Leo Grace of Coeur d'Alene. Other local players also showed remarkable performances in the elementary section, showcasing their dedication and skill in chess.
