February Ladder Tournament Kicks Off Despite Cold Weather

The February Ladder Tournament started strong last night, with 14 dedicated participants braving the freezing temperatures and slick roads to join the competition. From seasoned players to rising stars of the CDA Chess Club, the evening was filled with strategic battles and great camaraderie. Among the attendees was Michael Moore, one of our youngest members, showcasing talent and enthusiasm that is sure to inspire others. Payton, Leo, Sophie, and Serena also brought their A-game, sharpening their skills as they prepare to represent CDA Chess in the upcoming scholastic regional tournament. The opening two rounds saw fierce competition, with Deon, Andrew, and Rick emerging as the early leaders, each going undefeated in their matches. Congratulations to them on their strong start! New Beginnings Tournament Concludes with Exciting Final Rounds

  The CDA Chess Club’s New Beginnings Ladder Tournament wrapped up thrillingly on January 20th, marking the conclusion of a three-week competition filled with strategy, camaraderie, and impressive performances. Throughout this tournament, 22 players participated, showcasing new talent and the return of familiar faces, bringing vibrancy and excitement to every round. The final evening saw 10 competitors battle in rounds 5 and 6. Ultimately, Eric emerged as the overall winner, demonstrating consistency and skill by winning all six matches. Andrew Sr. claimed second place, scoring an impressive 5 points throughout the tournament. W ith 4 points, Emerson rounded out the top three, building on his strong performance from earlier rounds and cementing his place among the tournament's standout players. Thanks to everyone participating in the CDA Chess MLK Celebration Online Tournament on January 20, 2025 ! The event was filled with exciting matches, intense competition, and a fantastic display of strategy and sportsmanship as we honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of unity and growth. With a 3-round Swiss format and a fast-paced Game with 20-time control , players brought their best moves to the virtual boards on Lichess.org . Congratulations to Deon (deongood) for claiming first place with an impressive 2.5 points, including victories over Andrew Sr. (ARVdesigns) and Andrew Jr. (MijoGrande) , plus a first-round bye. A big shoutout to Andrew Sr. , who secured second place , and Michael d. (bodenzo) , who rounded out the podium with a solid 2 points.
