February 22 Regional Tournament Results – Congratulations to All Players!

 

The North Idaho Scholastic Regional Tournament on February 22 was a tremendous success, bringing together 44 talented players for a day filled with strategy, competition, and excitement. With participants spanning three sections—K-5, 6-8, and 9-12—this event proved to be one of our largest and most memorable tournaments in recent years. A heartfelt congratulations goes out to every player who participated—you showcased impressive skills and sportsmanship throughout the day!

K-5 Section Highlights

The K-5 section saw 6 of the top 10 spots claimed by CDA Chess Club members, with exceptional performances by Leo Grace and Darshini Dinesh Babu (shown above). These two competitors faced off, drawing their game and tying for the top position with 4.5 points each. Close contenders Serena Grace and Logan Davis followed with 4 points apiece. Other standout players included Milo Davis, Desmond Hegy, and Sophia Grace, who all finished in the top 10.

6-8 Section Highlights

With 15 players, the 6-8 section was fiercely competitive. Solomon Moss emerged as the winner with a perfect score of 5 points, while Ryan Bell secured second place with 4 points. Tying for third place with 3.5 points each were Keegan Whitney, Ryder Pimentel, and Broadus Harsh.

9-12 Section Highlights

The 9-12 section hosted 9 players, and it was a thrilling contest until the final matches. Samuel Van Wormer, Emerson Schwartz, and Emmy Pimentel shared the top honors, each finishing with 4 points. Close behind were Payton Akers and Lucas Hawkins, both earning 3 points.

An Outstanding Day of Chess

With so many outstanding performances, this tournament demonstrated the exceptional talent and dedication of our chess community. From seasoned competitors to newer players gaining valuable experience, everyone contributed to an unforgettable event.

We’re incredibly proud of all 44 participants for showing determination, skill, and great sportsmanship. Whether you achieved a podium finish or simply enjoyed the games, we celebrate your efforts and growth as chess players.

Looking Ahead

The action doesn’t stop here! Mark your calendars for March 13, when the next chapter of the North Idaho Scholastic Chess League will take place at Sorensen. We’re also eagerly looking ahead to seeing many of these players represent their schools and communities at the State Championships next month in Boise.
