Beginner's Chess Club

Important Update & New Online Opportunities

Welcome to the Beginner's Chess Club! We are dedicated to helping players of all levels master the board, sharpen their strategies, and enjoy the game of chess.

Important Announcement: In-Person Lessons Paused

Please note that we have suspended our in-person group lessons at the Idaho State Patrol offices for the time being. We appreciate everyone who has attended our sessions so far and look forward to continuing our journey with you in a new format.

Coming Soon: Online Chess Academy ♟️

We are excited to announce that we are exploring a transition to online group lessons! This shift allows us to bring expert instruction directly to your home, eliminating travel time and making chess accessible to players across the region—especially those in outlying areas.

Why Join Us Online?

Using the Lichess platform, we can monitor up to 10 games simultaneously. This technology allows our instructors to provide real-time feedback and analysis just as effectively as if we were in the same room.

This format is perfect for:

  • School Clubs: Enhance your existing program with professional coaching without needing a bus.
  • Library Groups: Offer high-quality programming to your patrons remotely.
  • Rural Residents: Access expert-level instruction without the long drive into town.
  • Friends & Neighbors: Form your own small group and learn together from the comfort of your living rooms.

Flexible Scheduling & Pricing

We are proposing to keep our primary meeting time on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., but the online format offers flexibility. If another time works better for your group, let us know!

Proposed Pricing Structure:

  • Small Group (2 students): $15/hr per person
  • Larger Group (3–10 students): $10/hr per person
  • Private Lesson (1-on-1): $25/hr

Payments accepted via Venmo, PayPal, or check.

We Want to Hear From You!

Your feedback is vital as we build this new program. Are you interested in online lessons? Do you have a school club or library group that would benefit from remote coaching?

Please let us know:

  1. Are you interested in Private, Small Group, or Large Group lessons?
  2. Does the Thursday 6:00 p.m. time slot work for you? If not, what times are best?
  3. Do you have any questions about how the online format works?
