Announcing the September With Class Chess Tournaments!

 


We're excited to invite chess enthusiasts of all skill levels to participate in our September With Class Chess Tournaments! Mark your calendars for three thrilling strategy, competition, and fun weeks. Join us on September 9, 16, and 23 for two rounds of chess each night, catering to players in two sections: those rated 1200 and under and those over 1200 on the club chess ladder.

The tournaments will kick off at 6:00 p.m. at McDonald’s at Riverstone, where participants can enjoy a great atmosphere and connect with fellow chess lovers. Additionally, we're hosting a Special Beginners' Tournament on September 12 to support our budding players. This event is an excellent opportunity to prepare for the North Idaho Scholastic Chess League, which starts on September 19. The beginners' tournament will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at Post Falls Burger King.

Following our September tournaments, we are thrilled to remind everyone about the North Idaho Scholastic Chess League (NISCL), which starts on September 19. This league is perfect for young chess enthusiasts looking to compete and improve their game in a supportive environment. Be sure to sign up and get involved in this enriching experience!

Results from September 9, 2024

Overall, we had 15 players, plus a couple of individuals who jumped in after the night's two rounds were completed. We warmly welcomed new players Greg and Mitchell, who found that three-dimensional chess is a different experience but enjoyed it nonetheless.

In the 1201 and over group, Eric eked out two narrow victories to sit atop the leaderboard alongside Andrew V [1] and Andrew V. [2]., a father-son duo, all with 2 points. In the 1200 and under group, Kaleb finished unscathed with 2 victories. We expect an exciting return of players ready to give him a challenge next week.

For those who missed it, it was a very enjoyable evening, highlighted by some intense games. As school begins and schedules settle for fall, make room on your calendar for Monday night chess. See you next week!

Results from September 16, 2024

We had 16 players compete in this week's 3rd and 4th rounds, including Forest, who joined us for the first time. We were also delighted to welcome back Milo, Leo, Emmaus, Chris, and Sophia, who returned after missing the previous week.

In the 1201+ section, Eric continued his winning streak, clinching victories in both matches to remain atop the leaderboard. Payton had an equally impressive evening, securing two victories.


In the 1200-section, Rick emerged as the leader with a solid 3 points after winning both matches. Leo also performed exceptionally well, securing double wins for the evening.

Our final two rounds will be played next Monday, September 23, with rounds beginning at 6:00 p.m.. We look forward to another round of exciting matches and hope to see everyone there!

Competitive Brackets and New Faces: Highlights from July 1

We are pleased to announce the results of our July 1 meeting. The event featured two-round mini-brackets based on ladder rankings, offering thrilling and competitive play for all. Top Brackets: William, Mike, and Alex emerged as the top players in their respective brackets. Alex's Impressive Gain: Alex had an outstanding night, gaining the most ladder points with an impressive 39-point leap. New Participants: We welcomed 16 players, including new additions to the chess ladder: Melissa, Everett, and Brooksley. Next week, we kick off the 3-week "Chess For Success" tournament, featuring two rounds each night for six rounds. Registration for the first night is not required. Final Results of the Summer Solstice Chess Tournament and Upcoming Events

The Summer Solstice Chess Tournament concluded with an exciting finale. Players battled it out over three weeks of intense matches. In the Solstice A Bracket, 12 players competed fiercely, with the top finishers being Steve (4.5 points), John (4 points), and Sam and Greg, who each secured 3.5 points. The final night highlighted Steve's remarkable save against John, turning a near-loss into a draw. Sam and Mike’s game also resulted in a draw. Eric and Greg showed their strength by winning both matches that evening. Meanwhile, the Solstice B Bracket was a close contest, with Payton, Emerson, and Frank each achieving 4 points. Payton edged out his competitors through tie-breakers based on opponents' scores. Matt's son, newcomer Emmaus , made a memorable debut. A robust field of 17 players participated in this section, including standout performances from Frank and Isaac, who both won 2 matches and saw Isaac gain an impressive 104 rating points.
