The North Idaho Scholastic Chess League (NISCL) recently concluded its highly competitive 2023-24 season on May 16th at Coeur d'Alene High School, showcasing the talents of 23 enthusiastic players. This season was marked by impressive performances across all age groups, with schools and individual players demonstrating remarkable skill and strategic prowess.

Season Standings and Individual Achievements

In the high school category, Coeur d'Alene High School captured first place, followed by Lake City and Kellogg, who earned second and third place, respectively. Canfield secured the top position in the middle school category, while Nexa emerged as the champion in the elementary division.

On the individual front (current and former club members in bold), Owen Karlinsey took home the first-place prize for high school players, trailed by Cameron Gallaher and Elliott Boyman, with Sharma Manik receiving an honorable mention medal. Ewan Case topped the middle school ranks, while Ryan Bell shone in the elementary category along with Leo Grace, Logan Davis, Serena, and Sophia Grace, all earning medals for their commendable performances.

A Vision for Growth and Development

As we look forward to the new season, our primary goal is to significantly increase participation numbers, fostering a robust community of young chess enthusiasts. We believe in nurturing talent from the ground up, starting with our beginner's club meetings every Thursday night. These sessions are crucial for developing fundamental skills and fueling a lifelong passion for the game among newcomers.

This summer, we will focus on intensive learning and practice sessions to expand our base of young players. We invite experienced players to join us as mentors to support and inspire these budding chess aficionados. Your guidance can make a considerable difference in enriching our program and achieving our growth targets.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you want to contribute as a mentor or enroll your student in our league. Together, we can elevate the NISCL to new heights and create an even more vibrant chess community next season.
