Schedule

  • Check-in: 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.
  • Tournament Play: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Format

This year’s tournament features two exciting formats to accommodate different playing styles and levels of experience:

  1. USCF-Rated Section
    • Time Control: 3 G/40; d5 (three games with a 40-minute base time and a 5-second delay).
    • Depending on the number of players, either a quad-setup, or swiss will be used.
    • Ideal for seasoned players seeking competitive matches and official ratings.
  1. Unrated Sections
    • Time Control: 5 G/20 (five games with a 20-minute base time).
    • Swiss System. Sections depending on number of entries.

Registration

Make sure to secure your spot early! Pre-registration is highly recommended and comes with a discount:

  • $20 for pre-registration (payable at the door—cash preferred), $25 on the day of the tournament.

Pro tip: Early registration ensures a smooth check-in process and helps the organizers plan for the best experience possible.

Prizes

Your chess skills could pay off in more ways than one! Prize amounts will be announced after the first round, based on participant entries. With stakes like these, it’s worth giving every game your all.

What to Bring

While some chess sets and clocks will be provided, players are strongly encouraged to bring their equipment, especially tournament-style chess sets and clocks. Having your gear ensures familiarity and comfort as you play.

Additional Rules

To keep the tournament fair and enjoyable, the event will follow several key rules:

  1. Byes: Each player can request a half-point bye for any round, but this must be committed before round two is paired.
  1. Tiebreaks: Matches with tied results will follow these tiebreak methods:
    • Solkoff, Cumulative, Cumulative Opposition, Modified Median

Tournament Director Steve Dahlstrom will oversee the event to ensure a smooth and competitive experience for all.
