Calling All Chess Players to the North Regionals Event!


The Idaho Chess Association is thrilled to announce the upcoming North Regionals Scholastic Chess Tournament, set to take place on February 22nd, 2024, at Lakeland Middle School in Rathdrum. This exciting event provides a unique opportunity for players across the region to demonstrate their skills, engage in friendly competition, and secure their spot in the next round of state-level events.

The North Regionals event is open to all K-12 scholastic players, regardless of rating or experience. This unrated tournament is designed to foster growth and participation among players while celebrating the strategic and educational value of chess. With sections for K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 players, everyone has a chance to compete with peers at their skill level. Equipment will be provided at the venue, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Players from the North region are vital to Idaho’s chess community, and this event is an excellent platform to highlight the talent and dedication of local participants. By competing in the North Regionals, players not only challenge themselves but also contribute to the vibrant chess culture in Idaho. Additionally, the top performers will be eligible to advance to the prestigious State Invitational, where the best scholastic players from across the state come together to represent their schools and regions.

This tournament will feature continuous rounds starting at 10:00 am, with a check-in time from 9:00–9:30 am. Participants must register ahead of time, as registration closes 24 hours before the event, and all fees must be paid in full by this deadline. Discounted registration fees are available for ICA members and families.

Prizes will include trophies for the top three finishes in each section and medals for grade-level achievements, as well as recognition for the Top School team. Hosted in the cozy setting of Starbucks on Ironwood, the event showcased the talent and skill of chess enthusiasts from various regions.   Our recent North Idaho Scholastic Chess League tournament at the Hayden Public Library was a remarkable showcase of talent and strategic prowess. On November 20th, twelve dedicated players gathered to compete in a classic "Quad" round-robin format, demonstrating exceptional skills and strategic depth. Congratulations are in order for Payton Akers, Serena Grace, and Logan Davis, each of whom emerged victorious in their respective groups with an impressive streak of three consecutive wins. Their success stems not only from talent but from continued participation and practice at the CDA Chess Club meetings, held every Monday night.
