Twenty-six players answered the call on Monday evening, filling the tables at Riverstone McDonald’s for the opening night of Knights of the Chessboard — the Coeur d’Alene Chess Club’s three-week May tournament. With rounds 1 and 2 now in the books and four more to come over the next two Mondays, the field is taking shape — and the competition is already fierce. This month’s tournament features a divided field by rating: the Knights , comprising the club’s top 14 players, and the Knaves , a spirited 12-player section where several new faces made their CDA Chess Club debut.
