Prepare your strategies and set your sights on victory. The CDA Chess Club is thrilled to announce our premier event for the month: the March of the Masters tournament. As we step into spring, a season of growth and renewal, we invite you to channel that energy into your game. This tournament is more than a competition — it's a journey toward chess mastery.

Whether you are a seasoned competitor looking to sharpen your skills or a newer player eager to test your abilities, this event is for you. The March of the Masters celebrates the dedication, creativity, and strategic thinking that define a true chess player. Join us to challenge yourself, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and take your game to the next level.

Tournament Format and Structure

The March of the Masters is designed to provide a fair and competitive environment for players across all ratings. The tournament will be held over three consecutive Mondays, allowing participants to build momentum and adapt their strategies throughout the event.

We will use a Swiss system, which ensures you are paired with players of a similar skill level as the tournament progresses. This format ensures that every player plays in every round, regardless of their win-loss record. It's an excellent way to gain valuable experience and face a variety of opponents.

Schedule and Key Dates

Mark your calendars for three exciting evenings of chess. The tournament will unfold on the following dates: March 9, 16, and 23, 2026.

March 9 Recap: After the first two rounds, four players — Ken, Steve, Anakin, and Marty — emerged undefeated, while Richard and Jonathon shared a draw in their match. We'd also like to extend a warm welcome to newcomers Steve, Chad, Josh Argon, Parker, James, Kaisen, and Miles, whose participation helped bring our player count to an impressive 21 for the opening rounds. The turnout was so remarkable that one observer wondered what we'll do when we run out of space — but for now, we still have room and plenty of energy in the club! A special welcome back also goes to Jonathon and Frank, returning after a break.

March 16 Recap: What a night! We had a massive turnout of 28 players — one of the largest in our club's history — making for an incredible evening of chess. The double winners of the night were Ken, Emerson, Jonathan, and Josh, each taking home two points on the evening. After four rounds of competition, the current point leaders are:

  • Ken — 4 points
  • Jonathan — 3.5 points
  • Emerson — 3 points
  • Anakin — 3 points

A warm welcome goes out to new players Masha and Jadon, who made their club debuts, and it's great to see Logan, Milo, Deacon, and Bennett back at the board. The final two rounds take place next Monday, March 23 — don't miss it!
