Designed for fairness and excitement, the March of the Masters featured a Swiss system format that allowed all participants to compete in every round, regardless of their win-loss record. Players faced a variety of opponents, building momentum and adapting strategies through each stage—a true test of resilience and chess acumen.

The action unfolded across three consecutive Mondays, and each round brought new stories and memorable moments to our club:
March 9 Recap:
After the first two rounds, four players—Ken, Steve, Anakin, and Marty—emerged undefeated, while Richard and Jonathon shared a draw in their match. We extended a warm welcome to new members Steve, Chad and Josh Argon, Parker, James, Kaisen, and Miles, whose energy and enthusiasm helped bring our player count to an impressive 21 for the opening rounds. The turnout created a buzz of excitement, with one onlooker even wondering what would happen if we ran out of space! Special thanks go to Jonathon and Frank for joining us again after a break.
March 16 Recap: The second night kept the momentum going with intense matchups across all boards. Ken and Anakin continued their undefeated streaks, each securing crucial victories to stay atop the leaderboard, while Marty and Emerson also scored impressive wins to remain in close contention. The evening stood out for its spirited battles and thoughtful play, with several games coming down to the final moments. Noteworthy performances from new members added another level of excitement, and the growing crowd reflected just how engaged and passionate our community has become.
**March 23 Results & Tournament Close:**The competition only intensified through the final two rounds, with Ken claiming victory with a total of 5½ points. Close behind was Anakin with 4½, while Emerson and Marty each finished with 4 points. The draws among these top players underscored just how fierce and evenly matched the games became as strong new members joined our roster. All in all, 33 players participated in this year’s March of the Masters—an outstanding testament to the vibrancy of our club. A special shoutout to Mac, who played his very first games in this tournament.
Highlights and Achievements
This tournament offered more than just the thrill of playing; it fostered new friendships, sparked strategic growth, and brought together a remarkable group of players. A special shoutout goes to Rick, who was recognized as the most improved player over the last three months, raising his rating by an impressive 118 points. The stories shared, lessons learned, and dramatic games played all contributed to an unforgettable experience.
