All-American Chess Board Derby: Week 2 Recap & What’s Next!

The second week of the All-American Chess Board Derby saw another light turnout—summer vacations and the recent holiday kept things quieter than usual. However, the evening still brought new faces and meaningful community moments to Riverstone McDonald’s. New player Luke joined us this week, enjoying a friendly side game with Rick and bringing fresh energy to the group. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Barb and Kim, who are here on behalf of a national non-profit to collect data on the positive impact community organizations like ours have on the local area. Barb and Kim will be with us for an extended visit, getting to know our club and its members. Week 2 Standings: Division Leaders Emerge Advanced Division: Emerson surged into the lead by earning a draw against Andrew, putting him at 3.5 points.   Our June 23rd “Bracket Busters” Chess Tournament at Riverstone McDonald’s was a smashing success! With over 20 players, including newcomers and returning faces, the atmosphere was electric with strategic moves and friendly competition. The venue was excited as players of all levels—seasoned strategists and eager learners alike—gathered to test their skills, share laughs, and enjoy McDonald’s classics. Highlights from the Competition: A Great Turnout: We were thrilled to welcome new players Sawyer and Ben, along with Travis, who joined us after his travels to Alaska. It was wonderful to see fresh faces alongside familiar ones, making this tournament a dynamic and diverse event. Intense Matches: The brackets paired players with their closest ladder rivals, resulting in some incredibly close games.
