From Fierce Battles to New Faces: Highlights of February's Chess Action

 


The February Ladder Tournament, "I Love Chess," has officially ended, and we couldn’t be prouder of all the players who participated throughout the month! Despite challenging weather at the start, our dedicated players showed great perseverance, skill, and community spirit, making this event a resounding success.

We want to congratulate Andrew Sr. and Rick, who finished at the top of the standings with impressive scores of 4. Rick’s performance this month was particularly noteworthy—winning 8 of his last 10 games this quarter and boosting his rating by an incredible 58 points in the final two rounds. Additional applause goes to Emerson, William, Grant, and Michael de Tar for their strong showings with 3 points each. Emerson deserves a special shoutout for increasing his rating by 168 points in the last three months!

We were also thrilled to welcome new members Harue and Jillian to the CDA Chess Club. Their participation added fresh energy to the tournament and contributed to our overall turnout of 24 players—an increase from January. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this tournament an event to remember!

Next week will be an open-play week, giving members the perfect opportunity to refine their strategies, test new techniques, and prepare for the upcoming March Ladder Tournament. With warmer weather on the horizon, we hope to see even more faces joining our friendly competitions.

William Dolson-Andrew The November 9th Starbucks Chess Tournament proved once again to be a remarkable occasion, filled with intense competition and strategic brilliance. Hosted in the cozy setting of Starbucks on Ironwood, the event showcased the talent and skill of chess enthusiasts from various regions. We extend our hearty congratulations to William Dolson-Andrew from St. Maries, Idaho, who clinched the first place award with his impressive gameplay.   Our recent North Idaho Scholastic Chess League tournament at the Hayden Public Library was a remarkable showcase of talent and strategic prowess. On November 20th, twelve dedicated players gathered to compete in a classic "Quad" round-robin format, demonstrating exceptional skills and strategic depth. Congratulations are in order for Payton Akers, Serena Grace, and Logan Davis, each of whom emerged victorious in their respective groups with an impressive streak of three consecutive wins. Their success stems not only from talent but from continued participation and practice at the CDA Chess Club meetings, held every Monday night.
